Vanishing Acts: Full Synopsis

Lucy Stephens is the daughter of a wealthy businessman who operates in the Middle East. On a cold winters night Lucy meets her boyfriend who has been absent from her for 2 months. Lucy is prohibited to have boyfriends, which is the reason for why she meets him so far and in such a secluded location as such alleyway, but little does she know that her boyfriend is part of a Middle Eastern terrorist organization who have been plotting to kidnap and hold her for ransom due to her fathers dodgy exploits in the Middle East. She is taken from an alleyway after being set up by her boyfriend and is taken to an unknown location. To all the kidnappers meticulous planning they forgot the phone that Lucy had dropped trying to scrabble out of kidnapping.

Officer Danny McCabe is a chief inspector for the met police. For more than 40 years he’s worked as a detective to solve missing cases one of which included the case of Chloe Pindar who went missing for more than 17 years. McCabe spearheaded the operation but failed to save her from being murdered. Now on his last legs and due to retire he’s on his final case. Partnered by a transfer from the United States, young and brash Leo Riggs the two must find the perpetrators of Lucy Stephens. Starting with the phone that was dropped in the alleyway.

Meanwhile strapped to a chair in a grubby and dirty cell Lucy Stephens sits sulking and crying. The kidnappers discuss amongst themselves the faults that they made and realized that they had dropped the phone of which contains photos of her boyfriend and of his father Abdul Kalama who is the ringleader of the operation.

The partners scan through the contents of the phone and soon discover the photos. Immediately recognizing the face of Abdul Kalama, who’s had previous convictions of preaching Islamic extremism at a rally in South London 4 months ago. However to their dismay they discover that Kalama’s police file has been deleted. This prompts the two men to question the existence of institutional corruption within the Met Police force. However what they are to discover is something more shocking.

Lucy’s been moved to a new location in the Middle East. This is due to the two partners knowing of the abductors identity. The terrorists have a 50 million pound ransom for the release of Lucy. All the money raised will go into a support system that helps to rebuild the lives of many Middle Eastern people who had to suffer at the hands of Lucy’s Fathers oil company. However the partners soon discover that Lucy’s owns the charity where the money is being given into Fathers brother as who is dead, which means all the proceeds are given into the hands of Lucy’s father who has inherited it.

The two men question and probe Lucy’s Father Henry Stephens. They finish the interview and walk out, noticing a picture of the head of the Met Police and Henry. Suspicion begins to grow amongst them and they come to the sudden realization that Henry and The Met Police chief are cousins. It’s apparent that Henry is the orchestrator of this kidnapping “He who has money can buy power” and it becomes clear that Henry has been paying off the chief to delete the files.

Meanwhile news has spread that Henry has been caught in the act. Henry tells of his daughter’s whereabouts and they travel to Dubai. Word has spread amongst the abductors that McCabe and Riggs are in Dubai. Knowing they’ve been compromised the abductors hoist Lucy on the pole of the Burj Khalifa Hotel. Both Riggs and McCabe have killed the crew of 7 who are holding Lucy captive. Riggs goes after Kalama and his son whilst McCabe rescues Lucy. A fistfight ensues at the top of the tower with McCabe overcoming Khalafa and his son who both die when they fall off the building. Meanwhile Lucy is rescued from the top of the building. Lucy informs the two that a bomb is rigged and ready to explode on the Burj Khalifa. The trio finds par shoots on the helipad and jump off the building landing in the Dubai Fountain. The bomb does not go off as there was a mechanical fault but that’s the least of McCabe and Riggs’s worries. As they reach for dry land. McCabe is shot by the Chief Inspector as he saves the life of Lucy. In-turn the constable himself is shot by Riggs.

The camera cuts to the funeral of Danny McCabe. The funeral finishes and the procession disperses leaving Riggs and Lucy together. He states “your safe with me now.” The End.

StoryBoard: Gabriel

After several attempts and 3 redrafts this is our completed and final version of our storyboard. In total there are 25 shots, with the inclusion of a few more during shooting. Changes during shooting might be made but this is expected and is typical of a film. The board includes the types of shots and the sound and dialogue in each shot also the length of them too.

Equiptment,Costumes and Props.

- Camera-Use to shoot our film
- Tripod- Used to hold the camera
- Lighting - create the effect of darkness and shadows. We used a torch and dark curtains to block out unwanted natural light.
- Mac - upload the footage to the Mac and to transfer things to the blog.
- Final Cut Pro - edit the footage filmed on camera.
-Live type for the title of the film.
Costumes: The main Character will need to wear casual clothes, ones that do not show any particular individuality, so that audiences will be able to relate to her and think that she appears to be a normal girl.
- Jeans, pumps, plain jacket and a plain top.
-The antagonist will need to wear something dark, dark colors are associated with evil and mystery which is something we want to get across to our audience. They will also be required to wear hoodies so as there face does not show.

Location Research: Gabriel

The setting for our opening sequence to the film is in and around the area of Westbourne Park to Golbourne Road in West London. The reason why we chose to shoot in this area instead of other area's such as Brentford and Hanwell is because our team feel that this location is a easy, accessible and convenient for both the team and actors to reach. The area provides us with a gritty and urban backdrop to really infuse with the events going on screen. Golbourne and Westbourne Park also provide us with different alleyways and streets to use both of which are integral to the opening sequence of the film. What’s also beneficial is that many of the locations that we using are secluded and are often empty and so it is likely that there will not be an onrush of pedestrians. What is also apparent is that each shot that incorporates a different shot is within walking distance and relinquishes us from commuting from spot to spot. In the unlikely event that some of the locations that we have chosen to shoot are unavailable then we have some leverage, as the area is very diverse and can offer a lot of unique and unusual area’s that we feel would suit the film.

Location 1a
For our first shot we decided to open the sequence with a establishing shot of Westbourne Park train station with the Trellick Tower Estate in skyline. We feel a establishing shot is essential for setting the tone for the opening seconds of the movie and provides the audience a sense of anticipation for where the action will take place. This shot can be achieved by accessing the rooftop of the North of The Brunel Estate.

Location 2a
For our second location we chose to use the exterior of Westbourne Park tube station, as our protagonist Lucy is exiting from there. Westbourne Park tube station is very close to the surronding locactions that we chose to shoot from so this was the most convienient. Westbourne Park can be accessiable via the Hammersmith and City Line, 28 or 23 bus or by walking from Goldbourne or Portobello road.

Location 3a
Our third shot will be on the Bosworth road just off of Golbourne Road. This is the location where the car will be positioned to watch Lucy walk into the alleyway. This setting is quite so this will limit the amount of potential disruption. Also this is within walking distance from Westbourne Park which could potentially mean that we could involve most of the shots for the opening sequence of the film.

Location 4a
Although it is not visable in the image, the alleyway on Hazelwood Crescent is key to the climax of the film. Hazelwood Crescent will be the scene of the abduction. The alleyway itself is out of harms way from the public so it would make kidnapping Lucy much more easier and leniant in terms of people interfering with the shooting.

Location 1b
We decided to create more options and oppurtunitys for us in terms of planning the location. Intially we recided over Westbourne Park and Goldbourne however due to faults in our production structure and in our recruitment of reliable cast members we decided to make things more convinient by shooting in and around the grounds of our school. For our first location we chose a opening in a estate off Boston Manor for technical and creative purposes.

Location 2b
For our second location we will mix our original westbourne park station location with Northfields instead. This is done primarly for convience and urgency in our production.

Location 3b
The 3rd shot of the opening sequence will be that of the Glaxo Smith Clyne building. We will use this building as it is brooding and its exterior is quite intimidating. This will be the location of the kidnappers but not literally. It could also be used as a forshadowing device in the film.

Location 4b
Yet again the 4th shot will employ and utilise the surrondings of the area. The technicality of this shot is emphasised by the bridge.

Location 5b
For our 5th location our aim is to emphasise the affluence that exists in the area of Ealing. Some of the houses can be used effectively for technical purposes.
