StoryBoard: Gabriel

After several attempts and 3 redrafts this is our completed and final version of our storyboard. In total there are 25 shots, with the inclusion of a few more during shooting. Changes during shooting might be made but this is expected and is typical of a film. The board includes the types of shots and the sound and dialogue in each shot also the length of them too.

Equiptment,Costumes and Props.

- Camera-Use to shoot our film
- Tripod- Used to hold the camera
- Lighting - create the effect of darkness and shadows. We used a torch and dark curtains to block out unwanted natural light.
- Mac - upload the footage to the Mac and to transfer things to the blog.
- Final Cut Pro - edit the footage filmed on camera.
-Live type for the title of the film.
Costumes: The main Character will need to wear casual clothes, ones that do not show any particular individuality, so that audiences will be able to relate to her and think that she appears to be a normal girl.
- Jeans, pumps, plain jacket and a plain top.
-The antagonist will need to wear something dark, dark colors are associated with evil and mystery which is something we want to get across to our audience. They will also be required to wear hoodies so as there face does not show.

Location Research: Gabriel

The setting for our opening sequence to the film is in and around the area of Westbourne Park to Golbourne Road in West London. The reason why we chose to shoot in this area instead of other area's such as Brentford and Hanwell is because our team feel that this location is a easy, accessible and convenient for both the team and actors to reach. The area provides us with a gritty and urban backdrop to really infuse with the events going on screen. Golbourne and Westbourne Park also provide us with different alleyways and streets to use both of which are integral to the opening sequence of the film. What’s also beneficial is that many of the locations that we using are secluded and are often empty and so it is likely that there will not be an onrush of pedestrians. What is also apparent is that each shot that incorporates a different shot is within walking distance and relinquishes us from commuting from spot to spot. In the unlikely event that some of the locations that we have chosen to shoot are unavailable then we have some leverage, as the area is very diverse and can offer a lot of unique and unusual area’s that we feel would suit the film.

Location 1a
For our first shot we decided to open the sequence with a establishing shot of Westbourne Park train station with the Trellick Tower Estate in skyline. We feel a establishing shot is essential for setting the tone for the opening seconds of the movie and provides the audience a sense of anticipation for where the action will take place. This shot can be achieved by accessing the rooftop of the North of The Brunel Estate.

Location 2a
For our second location we chose to use the exterior of Westbourne Park tube station, as our protagonist Lucy is exiting from there. Westbourne Park tube station is very close to the surronding locactions that we chose to shoot from so this was the most convienient. Westbourne Park can be accessiable via the Hammersmith and City Line, 28 or 23 bus or by walking from Goldbourne or Portobello road.

Location 3a
Our third shot will be on the Bosworth road just off of Golbourne Road. This is the location where the car will be positioned to watch Lucy walk into the alleyway. This setting is quite so this will limit the amount of potential disruption. Also this is within walking distance from Westbourne Park which could potentially mean that we could involve most of the shots for the opening sequence of the film.

Location 4a
Although it is not visable in the image, the alleyway on Hazelwood Crescent is key to the climax of the film. Hazelwood Crescent will be the scene of the abduction. The alleyway itself is out of harms way from the public so it would make kidnapping Lucy much more easier and leniant in terms of people interfering with the shooting.

Location 1b
We decided to create more options and oppurtunitys for us in terms of planning the location. Intially we recided over Westbourne Park and Goldbourne however due to faults in our production structure and in our recruitment of reliable cast members we decided to make things more convinient by shooting in and around the grounds of our school. For our first location we chose a opening in a estate off Boston Manor for technical and creative purposes.

Location 2b
For our second location we will mix our original westbourne park station location with Northfields instead. This is done primarly for convience and urgency in our production.

Location 3b
The 3rd shot of the opening sequence will be that of the Glaxo Smith Clyne building. We will use this building as it is brooding and its exterior is quite intimidating. This will be the location of the kidnappers but not literally. It could also be used as a forshadowing device in the film.

Location 4b
Yet again the 4th shot will employ and utilise the surrondings of the area. The technicality of this shot is emphasised by the bridge.

Location 5b
For our 5th location our aim is to emphasise the affluence that exists in the area of Ealing. Some of the houses can be used effectively for technical purposes.

Characters

Actors:
TV reporter:
Mr Hobbs is ideal as he looks as a news reporter will, smartly dressed middle aged, therefore he will fit this role.A news reporter has to look middle aged also as Mr Hobbs will be an available adult during media lessons he is reliable.

Lucy Stephens:
no.1 Joyce is ideal as she firstly is very reliable ,which is helpful as she can film certain scenes in school with us also she will always be available .Lucy Stephens is supposed to be about 16/17 and Joyce looks like the usual 16/17 year old Joyce will be dressed in normal clothing ,black leggings and a jacket etc. costume isn't really a problem in this role as its pretty standard

Lucy Stephens No.2: Bria daley,is second place due to certain factors such as availability ,bria doesn't go to gunnersbury (our school) so therefore any scenes needed to be played in school will be a problem ,additionally bria also lives pretty far away from westbourne park station where most of our filming takes place but nether the less bria looks like the usual 16/17 year old and will therefore be considered our actor if Joyce has any problems.

Boyfriend(1) :Clifford is an ideal character as he is available during school times also lives walking distance to westbourne park ,also Clifford is a great actor and has experience as a boyfriend ,Clifford also is very reliable , costume for Clifford role will include all black tracksuit which is normal attire for teenagers nowadays.therefore he will fit this role perfectly.

Boyfriend(2):
Danny Ready may become the boyfriend as Clifford may play another role in the film such as a bystander ,Danny is available at all times and also attends gunnersbury and therefore may be ideal additionally to be the boyfriend you just need to be a teenager.

Abductors:
Corey and Yaphet will be the abductors and they both are available in free periods ideal for scenes that can be filmed in school.also corey and yaphet live in the labroke grove area which is only a few minutes away from westbourne park station where our main scene takes place ,therefore they are available due to the fact it is a walking distance from their homes.Corey and Yaphet will both be wearing similar clothing which is most likely to be black on black tracksuits. They both fit the roles of the kidnappers as they can dress up and look in their late teens, also they both have voices which sound creepy enough to play this role.

Corey is pictured on the left and Yaphet is on the right of the picture.

MTF Codes and Conventions

What are codes one might ask? Codes are system of signs, which create meaning. These may include both technical codes or symbolic codes.

Symbolic codes- This shows the meaning behind something we see something eg: A firearm shoot out can tell us that the film is a action film.

Technical Codes- This all the ways in which equipment is used to tell the story in a media production.

Conventions- Are the way of doing something which is to do with content , form and style. there are two types of conventions which consist of :

Technical Conventions- This is a convention in a technical area

Genre Conventions- This is where certain themes are associated with a particular genre or subgenre.

MTF Equipment & Props

Throughout our meda project we used various props to complete our film to the best of our ability. We had to borrow many props from School which we was able to use to our full advantage.

The following props we use were-

Macbook Pro- Edited the final footage using this laptop.

Video Recorder-Recorded our film with this prop, it was not 'High Definition' but we was still able to use it.

Lighting- The lighting was used to make up for the poor level of footage on the video camcorder.

Tripod-We used this to mount our video recorder on to keep the footage of our film still. This enhanced the quality of our footage.

Costumes-The costumes our characters wore was what a teenager would be seen everyday to wear. However we made some of the clothing Dark. This added to our theme of our convention which was to add an enigma to our film entertaining the audience all the way throughout.

Pictures-We used this to add an enigmatic effect to our film. The pictures. of our Female protaganist Lucy Stephens  made the audience guess what was happening and how it linked with the story.

Mobile Phone- This was when our prop which Clifford used to make the call to Gabriel about the order to abduct Lucy was in plan.

Script Draft 3: Gabriel

Sequence opens with a montage and quick cuts of pictures and posters containing the face of the missing girl. By using montages and quick cuts we aim to suggest to the audience that the film will be based around this missin girl. By using montges depicting efforts being made to find her we hope to create a sense of sadness and sorrow for the young girl. Our first shots in the opening sequence will include credits that accompany the visual images.
